What To Wear – Spring City Break

by notsomousybrown

Spring is a brilliant time to book a city break, but choosing outfits to take can be tricky. Sometimes it’s not clear how the weather will be and it can change even in the time you’re away. When we went to Bruges, the temperature at the start and end of our trip was quite different, so I had to make sure I was ready for warmer and cooler days. I thought I’d write a guide to what I wore in Bruges and share the essentials items I think everyone needs when going on a city break in the Spring.

Daytime Outfits

Most of the time, the weather in Bruges was fairly warm but not boiling hot, typical for April when we went. I kept my daytime clothes simple and wore t-shirts and jeans as the base of my outfits. I really like wearing logo t-shirts as a Spring staple – I think they make an outfit with jeans more interesting. Pair this with a pair of comfy trainers (perfect for exploring) and that’s the basis of a daytime look sorted!

Two items which became really useful for me were my denim jacket and yellow cardigan. Both light whilst also keeping any windchill at bay, a cardigan or lightweight jacket are definitely must-haves when walking around a city at this time of year. I wore one or other of these over a t-shirt and it was just right for the temperature. The last thing I needed was a bag, and this yellow one has become an essential for me when I’m going away.

Evening Outfits

To keep my suitcase from overflowing, I kept my evening outfits jeans-based so that I didn’t end up taking half my wardrobe. I swapped trainers for a pair of heeled boots to transition outfits to the evening – any pair of heels is perfect for a night time look.

To go with this, I packed lightweight tops and a couple of jackets to really embrace the “jeans and a nice top” style. Admittedly, the leather jacket didn’t fit in my case, but as we drove to Bruges that wasn’t a problem for me. If you are packing with a luggage limit in mind however, a blazer style jacket like the one below is brilliant, as it doesn’t take up much room in the case but works really well as a piece for the evening.

Where To Buy

My recommendations of where to look for Spring city break outfits at good prices are:

T-shirts: Pull&Bear and River Island

Evening Tops: Topshop and New Look

Jeans: New Look and ASOS

Cardigans: H&M and ASOS

Jackets: Pull&Bear and Topshop

Trainers: Pull&Bear (a pair of Converse are always comfy too)

Bags: Accessorize

I hope this post will give you some inspiration for what clothes and shoes to pack if you have a city break planned for the near future!
