I’m no eyeshadow expert but, when it comes to which palettes I use everyday, I definitely have my favourites. Continuing with my comparisons of high street and higher end makeup items, I’ve taken a good look at two eyeshadow palettes that I use on a regular basis. There’s a big difference in the price tags of these two palettes, but does that make a huge difference to how they perform? Here’s what I think.
Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette Nude Rose (RRP around £3.99)
For a quick, daytime eyeshadow fix, this is the palette to use. I really like the pinky, peachy shades which are ideal for day wear (which is mainly what I use the palette for) and the compact size means that it can easily be used on the go. The shades are fairly pigmented but it does take a few layers of shadow to really build up the colour. Despite this, the colours do blend really well, and I like that the darker shades can be used for a quick switch from a daytime to nighttime look. The little brush that comes with the palette is doubled edged, ideal for blending two or more colours effectively. Other than having to layer up the shadow for maximum colour, I really can’t fault this palette considering its price! It’s excellent value for money and the shades all have a little bit of sparkle too, which gives it a texture similar to a more expensive palette.
Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette (RRP around £39.50)
When it comes to eyeshadow palettes, this is definitely a classic. Urban Decay’s Naked Eyeshadow Palette has always been one of my favourites. I love how versatile the palette can be with its matte and shimmer textures as well as neutral, pink and golden shades. The pigmentation is perfect and I can always use just a little bit of shadow to achieve a colour that really stands out. The shades are easy to blend and I always go straight for this palette if I’m getting ready for a night out. The quality of the eyeshadow is very high and the colour lasts either all day or night without having to be reapplied. Personally, I don’t mind spending a bit more on this palette as the range of shades is excellent. Compared to the other palette, the shadow creates more dramatic colour combinations, so it’s ideal for a nighttime look. Overall, this is a high quality palette and one that I’ll be relying on as party season approaches!
All in all, I’d say that even though the quality of the Urban Decay palette is higher, I use them both regularly for different occasions, with the Naked Palette having the edge when it comes to evenings out or special occasions.
