Travelling to different parts of the world is something I really want to do in the near and more distant future. I love exploring new places, and flicking through this old atlas has made me identify some of the cities, countries and continents I’d want to visit in my lifetime. A lot of the places I’m interested in are quite far removed from the little village in England that I live in, which makes the thought of one day being able to visit them all the more exciting! I thought I’d share my travel bucket list on here, hopefully motivating me even more to work hard to travel all over the world.
1 – Rome
At school I always had an interest in the Latin language and Roman history, so taking a trip to Rome is at the top of my travel list. Seeing the Colosseum up close would be an experience I’d never forget, as well as visiting other Roman tourist attractions such as the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and Palatine Hill. If I went to Italy, I’d love to visit the Amalfi Coast too; it looks beautiful and I know I could take the most amazing photos.
2 – Athens
This would definitely be another cultural trip and a chance to explore the city which hosted the first modern Olympic Games. The Acropolis is one of the most well known areas of the city – an ancient citadel with many significant buildings such as the famous Parthenon temple, something I’d definitely want to see.
3 – Barcelona
I’ve wanted to visit Barcelona for a long time for lots of reasons: to experience the popular tourist sites, to relax on the beach and to try traditional Spanish food. The Sagrada Família and Park Güell are two places I’d pay a visit to, and being a football fan means a tour of the Camp Nou would be a must!
4 – The Caribbean
Every time I see a photo of a Caribbean island, I want to hop on a plane and be surrounded by blue seas and palm trees. The places I’d most like to visit in the Caribbean are Havana (mainly for its rows of pastel houses), the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands – I’ll make this happen one day!
5 – Peru
This one is mainly for my mum. She’s always said that she wants to climb up to Machu Picchu, an Inca citadel situated in the mountains of Peru. It’s somewhere I’d love to go and see myself and I hope that mum and I will have the opportunity to go sometime in the future.
6 – Australia
There’d be so many different places I’d want to travel to in Australia that I think I’d need a month to visit them all. From Sydney and Melbourne to the Whitsunday Islands, this would be a trip that I’d have to do a lot of saving for. Even if I manage to travel to one part of Australia, I’ll have made it to the other side of the world, which I think is a good enough achievement in itself!
In short, looking at this atlas has made me realise that there are lots of places in the world I’d like to travel to, and hopefully I’ll have the means to start ticking places off my bucket list in the not too distant future!
