Styling Basic Jumpers

by notsomousybrown

As one of my aims this year is to buy less clothes, I want to try and style what I already have in different ways. Basics are perfect for wearing as part of different outfits, especially thinner jumpers. My most recent purchases before I sorted out my wardrobe were two basic jumpers from Primark, both of which I knew I’d be wearing a lot. I wanted to try wearing them with a few items in my wardrobe and share some basic daily outfits I’ll be wearing for the rest of Winter.

Basic Jumpers Outfit 1: Cream Jumper

I love making skirts work for the Winter and this mini was one I wanted to try and style in a different way. An all cream, black and grey outfit is a win for me and the thin jumper tucks perfectly into this skirt from Pull&Bear (similar here for £7.99 in the sale.) Paired with some black tights, heeled boots and a long grey coat, this outfit can be easily transitioned from day to night for a comfortable and stylish look.

Basic Jumpers Outfit 2: Cream Jumper

For something a bit more casual, I matched the cream jumper with ripped jeans from ASOS and my bargain boots from Topshop from a few years ago. The outfit is finished off with a brown corduroy jacket from Pull&Bear (similar here for £19.99 in the sale). Like the first outfit, the thin material means that the jumper goes underneath this tight jacket easily. I think the other items work well to add colour to the outfit and the high waisted jeans are perfect for tucking the long jumper into.

I’ve worn this outfit a few times already as it’s super comfy and casual. I paired the grey jumper with mom jeans from Topshop and a long grey coat, finished off with my flat, black boots from New Look (similar here for £27.99). Because the belt makes the jeans quite tight at the top, the thin jumper is ideal for tucking in without feeling uncomfortable. I think adding a bit of blue is a nice contrast to the grey and I’m all for embracing the mom jeans style.

This last outfit is possibly not so day to day, but adds a little bit more to a basic outfit. These stripy grey and white trousers from Pull&Bear work perfectly with the plain grey jumper, meaning I’ll be wearing them a lot more. Paired with heeled black boots and a faux leather jacket from Topshop (similar here for £49.00), this is another outfit that could be transitioned into the evening. Because the outfit isn’t that colourful, the patterned trousers make it more interesting and the jumper once again tucks into the tight waist well.

If you’re looking to add anything to your wardrobe over the next few months, I’d definitely say that thin, basic jumpers are a must have. They work with just about anything and they’ve helped me to rediscover items of clothing that I’d been neglecting a bit. My jumpers were from Primark, but I know similar basics can be found in most high street shops at good prices. Basic jumpers are items that will last a long time and never go out of fashion and I’m glad I’ve found two that I’ll be wearing a lot for the rest of Winter!
