I don’t usually walk into a shop and immediately get drawn towards one item. I usually have to browse around before I decide what it is that I’m interested in. That was different with this skirt – I knew straight away that I loved it! I’ve really noticed the revival of the polka dot trend this summer, and I’ve always loved items that are black and white with polka dots. So it was no surprise that I wanted to buy this skirt, adding another item to my evolving summer wardrobe.
Because of it being black and off-white, this skirt works well with lots of different colours. Light pinks and reds pair well with the skirt, meaning that it’s more versatile than it looks. I really like the fit too, as it’s not too loose or tight and doesn’t flare out too much like some short skirts do. The frayed hem is a stylish touch that means the skirt can be styled both for casual or dressed up occasions.
Here, I’ve paired the skirt with a black halter neck top from River Island (only £7.00!) and my jute wedges from Pull&Bear. I think this outfit would work well for a summer evening out, and I was quite surprised how well the grey shoes matched with the skirt. This particular outfit is definitely one for the night time, but with a different top and shoes combination, the skirt can be dressed down too.
A logo t-shirt or vest top for a hot summer’s day creates a more casual look, along with a pair of trainers or sandals. I can also see this skirt transitioning into the autumn and winter, worn with a pair of boots and a jacket, so I don’t have to leave it behind when the weather starts to become colder.
This lovely polka dot skirt can be found at Topshop for £29.00 here (I got the petite version as I’m quite short!) I think the price is definitely reflected in the quality of this skirt and I can justify the price by its versatility. I found the top on the sale rack at River Island, amongst other summery tops for under £10.00. The skirt is definitely my favourite spontaneous buy of the year so far and I’m hoping I’ll have lots more occasions to wear it over the next few months!
