Since starting my blog just over a year ago, I’ve managed to gather a small stash of homeware bits that have come in handy to use in blog or Instagram photos. I’ve found that there are quite a few places to find good quality interior pieces at affordable prices. Whilst I’ve always liked shopping around for things to spruce up my room, I now keep a closer eye out for items that are “Instagrammable” or that could be used in blog photos. I thought I’d share some of my top places to find interior bits – useful for both decorating and blogging!
A new find for me last year was Flying Tiger, a small-scale store which could be described as a mini IKEA. When I first discovered it, I couldn’t believe the low prices of pretty much everything in store. I managed to pick up a little heart-shaped mug for just £1 and since then it’s made an appearance a few times on my Instagram. As well as being useful as a mug, it looks great on a kitchen shelf or cup rack, and I just love the colour! Along with kitchenware, Flying Tiger has candles in every colour, pretty candle holders and stylish stationery, all at brilliant prices.
It’s hard to talk about homeware without mentioning IKEA. Every time I take a trip to IKEA, I end up with a haul of new things that I didn’t think I needed before I went in. I picked up some art cards for just £1 and they’ve proved really useful to use in blog photos. Also in my IKEA collection are candles, a candle dish and candle holder, all under £5 and handy for using in the background of photos. All these double up as decorative items for my room, and the candle holder is perfect for storing my makeup brushes.
Somewhere I hadn’t thought to look in before was Sainsbury’s. The larger stores tend to have a decent-sized homeware section with lots of good quality products. I found a heart-shaped blackboard (which was supposed to be for weddings) for under £5 and it’s great for writing different things on in chalk. The stripy blue, yellow and pink pastel straws that sometimes appear on my Instagram were also from Sainsbury’s and they work really well to brighten up blog or Insta photos. They’re made from paper so are good for the environment too!
One range I’ve really been loving is the alphabet homeware from Next. As is expected with Next, the products are slightly more expensive than some other retailers, but there are still some decent prices to be found. I recently picked up a brass initial for £6, a nice piece for any shelf and good for a blog photo backdrop. I also have a few alphabet candles at £5 each (which are now available in a newer version), handy for Instagram pictures as well as for lighting on a cosy night in.
My final pick is Wilko, a store which I could walk into and find lots of useful items for the home. I really wanted some fairy lights to use for photos and to put round the top of my bed, and I found some battery powered ones for around £4 in Wilko. I often see lots of decent home bits in Wilko for great prices, and I’ll be going back soon to see if there are any bargains to be had.
As well as relying on these stores, if I can use pretty envelopes, cards or, in the summer, flowers from the garden in blog photos, then I will! It’s handy to hold on to little things for my blog and Instagram photos without having to spend a penny, whilst also keeping an eye out for any bargains when I’m out shopping.
