Stumbling across hidden talent is quite exciting when it comes to music. Being able to listen to new bands who have followed me on Twitter recently has really opened my eyes to the talent that is out there. Whilst I haven’t had the chance to see these bands live yet, I’ve had a good listen to their material on Soundcloud and all three stand out as bands who’ve got real flair when it comes to writing, playing and performing their own songs. Here’s my next pick of up and coming bands, and I’d definitely recommend giving them all a listen!
Distinct indie-dance tracks and sing-along lyrics are what you can expect from The Assist. Brothers Mikey (vocals) and Ryan (guitarist) join bassist Jak and drummer Ben to form the four-piece from Birmingham who have been described as quite simply “the next big thing from Birmingham”. Their repertoire comprises of feel-good anthems and uplifting guitar riffs that will definitely lift your mood. One of their stand out songs for me is “Things Get Good”, with so many clever and unexpected melody changes that will make you want to listen again and again. The band have made it onto some of the biggest stages this year, playing at Leeds and Y Not Festival, as well as supporting Rat Boy and Blossoms. If you fancy a bit of uplifting, the band’s debut EP “Trouble” is out now on iTunes – it really is a testament to the talent that they have for songwriting.
It’s hard not to love the techno sounds and upbeat tunes that these guys have so brilliantly created! Max, John, Matt and Scott are Deco, a Nottingham based band with an individual indie-synth sound that’ll make you want to get up and have a dance. The energy the band inject into each of their songs, along with the fast-paced melodies, really stands out and I’d be excited to see what their live show would feature. A favourite song of mine is “Apollo”, as it instantly hits you with an up-tempo, techno melody which combines cleverly with an infectious, catchy chorus. The band have recently played a string of live shows in different parts of the country and have just released a new single, “ITIWY”, which certainly doesn’t disappoint with its distinct Deco sound. You’ll find their single on Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Music.
Lively, dreamy pop that’ll take you back to carefree summer days is how I’d best describe the sound of these guys. “Breeze” seems an apt name for the band, made up of Paul, Josh, Jorge and Michael, as their tracks really do have a bright and breezy vibe. Their songs are riddled with clear-cut drum beats, memorable choruses and laid back guitar riffs that make for easy, relaxing listening. “Luna Love Me Good” is an excellent example of this, with a canny tempo change at the chorus. Aside from their own tunes, I really do love the band’s cover of “Pure Shores”, a euphoric version of the All Saints’ song which shows off Breeze’s talent at producing chilled out, dream pop music. They’ve deservedly been noticed by NME Magazine and BBC Introducing and have supported the likes of Rat Boy and The Twang. The band have just released a brand new song called “Silk” which you’ll find on their Soundcloud below!
